I have a diverse group of friends but one of the things that consistently ties us all together is our love for reading and words. We love books, we love quotes and sayings put together by other people because reading these back validates certain thoughts and ideals and feelings. But I’m getting off topic—
About two weeks ago I was going through my Twitter timeline and I saw my friend Kang post about how someone had rendered Sylvia Plath’s “Mad Girl’s Love Song” from poetry to song.
(Kang and I have known each other since 2005 and was the first person to ever tag me as “Mommy” in the convoluted mess that is our online/offline family. We met out of sheer chance some six? seven? years ago, having signed up for the same dance class. I rarely get to see her these days and we mostly talk through the grace of the Internet, but I love this girl to bits and pieces. When I think of Sylvia Plath, it’s usually Kang who comes to mind. I think it has to do with the memory of how, when I handed her the Christmas present I got for her some two years back, the expression on her face was just utterly priceless as she traced her fingers over the cover of the book I’d gotten her.)
I tweeted Kang back, curiosity peaked because “Mad Girl’s Love Song” is pretty iconic for me. I was introduced to this poem in my senior year of high school and in all the years since, the subject of that poem still resonates with me.
Besides, if you take on the task of rendering a classic Sylvia Plath piece to music, you are definitely someone I need to listen to.
This is how I stumbled across a band called Fisher.
Now the song I’m sharing is obviously not “Mad Girl’s Love Song” (I might get around to sharing that at another time but not now — not just yet), but I was in the process of discovering how exactly to maneuver myself around Soundcloud when I came upon this track.
I wish I had lyrics to share with this post. There are several lines that kind of get me in the gut, especially in light of some things that are happening in my life. But my Google-fu is pretty bad today and while I could listen to the track and transcribe what I hear, I think it might be better if you guys just gave this song a listen on your own time.

#smiling2012 There was a meme earlier this month that went around Twitter wherein different people who are a part of and who follow Ofurotaimu over on Dreamwidth all went about singing lines from Vocaloid producer halyosy’s 「Smiling」 (information, romanji lyrics and translation can be found here).
There are a ton of covers out there of this song, because well… it’s a really great song with what I think is an incredible message. But I’m linking this one in particular because, well, for one — erm, I’m in it (^^,);; and second, because Ofuro is an amazing community with equally amazing people. So there.

I discovered Sleepthief’s music a few years ago, oddly enough, through the Transformers fandom. I remember writing out fiction while “Sublunar (Sweet Angel)” played out of my earphones and somewhere between marveling at the texture of the piece, I decided I needed this band’s music in my life.
So I went and found myself both their albums.
Listening to this particular song makes me want to hunt up the battered old pointe shoes that are somewhere in my room — and a size too small for me now that I think about it.
I used to dance a lot: ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, ballroom — you name it, I’ve probably tried it at least once. But yeah, between life and the commitments I make and there not being enough hours in a day — I haven’t really had the opportunity to dance again. I miss it. I miss it a lot.
So instead, I dance in my head. There’s a room up there that I can retreat to, the floor is clear and as long as there is music, there is always time to dance.
