Q:stumbled across your teen wolf song (Here Be Monsters) today and just wanted to say that you really have true talent! sometimes writers (esp for fan-songs) get too lost in the words and forget about the rhythm, but your song was well paced and had a really well written melody and harmony. :)

Music creates order out of chaos: for rhythm imposes unanimity upon the divergent, melody imposes continuity upon the disjointed, and harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous.

more thought and faith than most.

Been a while since I posted here. Life’s been busy, but otherwise good. I was about to share the lyrics of a new song I’d recently put together when I realized that I actually hadn’t posted the one I’d finished a couple of months ago.

A couple of years back, I was talking to a really good friend of mine about wanting to put together a piece whose musical spine was inspired by traditional folk music. It was a Thing I just wanted to do, because one of the pieces I’d had the privilege to perform at the CCP back when I was still taking up classical piano was a gorgeous composition called “Ang Pandanggo ni Neneng” and it was gorgeous to listen to as well as play.

So that’s a quick background on the music-side of this composition which I hope to put down sooner or later. The lyrics, on the other hand, are inspired by all the girls and women out there who go for their dreams and break preconcieved definitions so that they can just be themselves.

Anyway, here it is. Thanks in advance for reading ♥

“Forward”
Lyrics and Music: Noelle Pico

it’s past midnight
and the roads are bare
and on this pavement i walk a beat
that no one else can hear
and when i lift my hand
the car lights up ahead
drive out the cold
like fine old vintage

you don’t call, you don’t say hello
and that’s okay ‘cause i’m the one
who wants to take things slow
it’s a loss, but one i’m glad to know
the night is young,
and darling, i am too

i’m no maria,
no, my middle name isn’t clara
you are mistaken
to think i need your intervention

these aren’t those bygone days
where the good girls sit and wait
you know, i’m fine
with taking charge this time

they say “be careful,”
with everything you do
offer these warnings
and cautionary tales
make me afraid to choose
but why go apologize
for things that fit just right
i’ve got to go,
this town is mine tonight

i’m no maria,
no, my middle name isn’t clara
i have no reason
to humor all of these pretensions

we can negotiate
the finer points of give and take
and then we’ll see
what’s better off for me

bridge:
so on a ledge i stand
to see what lies below
and at my back they call
to say “girl stop, please don’t,”

still i can feel these wings
more thought and faith than most
and that’s enough
—so here i go

[musical break to fade]

“It’s so hard, in your twenties especially, when you’re struggling to figure out your identity and who you are… I feel like the biggest part of that is how you make your living, not financially, but what are the collection of your days about? What do you do all day? It’s pretty cool to get to do the work you want to do and then have an audience watch it, and be like, “I’m an actor.” (-)

rebootera:

They counted on the humans to hide, to give up, to fail. They never considered our ability to stand, to endure, that we’d rise to the challenge.

Sometimes I post things I fangirl about. This movie, for instance, is perfection. :)

Vulnerability is not weakness. And that myth is profoundly dangerous… I define vulnerability as emotional risk, exposure, uncertainty. It fuels our daily lives.
